Our program is rich in a curriculum of learning-through-play activities and structured lessons, all set in a stimulating Montessori inspired environment for maximum child-led learning.

Children learn about cultures and geography through "World Travel" including exposure to languages (French and Italian & more), with stories, maps and globes, costumes and foods--after all, The Jet Set Kids have to travel!

Role play stations:  Costumes, Mirror, Kitchen and  "Work Bench," complete with "power" tools and equipment.

Role play helps children express themselves, as they explore "living skills" on their own; it encourages self confidence and exploration, while it helps build communication and social skills like waiting turns and patience when playing with others.

Children learn as they rotate through the play stations during "Free Choice Time".  Individualized and Group Learning occur throughout the day, as well.

 Montessori inspired manipulatives on shelves encourage fine motor pre-writing skill development; alphabet finger-tracing with "see, say, hear and write" techniques build a strong Writing and Reading foundation.  Teacher-directed block-building instructs children in spatial and foundational Math concepts and many other skills that studies show remain with the child through school and life. I draw on my knowledge as a registered Architect to compose directed lessons for the construction block play.  Ask me to show you the final research paper I did for one of my college Early Childhood Education classes on this topic!

Our home is a book lover's home and our Early Childhood Education home school shows this. There are board books for wee ones; and for story telling and "World Travel" we have most of the classic children's stories, as well as some of the finest award winning illustrated masterpieces. Among the other books on the shelves are children's books on Science, along with books on Travel and Art and Architecture and more -- all to inspire children to form their own love for books and learning!

About Us -- Contact Us

Hi!

My name is Georgette Naqui, director of The Jet Set Kids, a brand new Early Childhood Education Childcare conducted in my family's home.  I have 20+ years experience in home schooling, tutoring, and child care for my own child as well as children of family and friends. I have a vivacious joy for learning and I impart this joy in the children I teach and care for.  My interests and experiences are far, wide and deep, and I bring all of this to my classroom!  In addition to having 6+ years of University education, being a registered Architect, I am an Artist (Painting and Sculpting) and I have traveled the world, studied foreign cultures and languages, and I am a pretty good cook on most days. I have taken and am continuing to take Early Childhood Education courses through Haywood Community College and am working towards the Associates Degree in that field.

I am an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and an active member of the Legion of Mary. My Faith has taught me that each child's individuality and dignity are deserving of my complete respect and love. I strive to instill this in the children I teach, so that they look for the good in everyone they see.

I am CPR & First Aid certified.

Please call me or drop me an email for questions or for scheduling a visit to our family's home school.

Sincerely,

Mrs Georgette Naqui ("Miss Gette")

Our Curriculum

Our Curriculum is Montessori-inspired, incorporating the environment and materials that are conducive to a child-led maximized, developmentally appropriate learning experience for each child.  Kindergarten Readiness-- and beyond-- is our goal!

Choice Play Time is the core of our curriculum.  During this time, children rotate around the classroom to the different stations, playing alone or with another child there.  I observe them, taking cues for their interests and abilities, and I then direct them to activities that best encourage learning and kindergarten readiness skills for each individual child.

Our daily schedule (see below) is very flexible to allow for child-led exploration, unplanned events or other learning opportunities that may arise throughout the day. Time slots may expand or contract according to the children’s interests in the activities.

We go Outside every day to play in the backyard (weather permitting) -- or on the screened-in deck on rainy days.  We encourage the children to explore and to be “little scientists” when we take our nature hikes in the backyard woods, which may lead to some child-led research when we return inside! Gardening or outdoor water sprinkler play is seasonal and notification of these activities will be given in advance, as a change of clothes and towels will be necessary!

Music & Movement may be done on the deck if it is not too hot. Sometimes, on special reward days, we will take a large blanket on the grass, or on the deck, and have a lunch time picnic!  In summer when it is too hot, Outdoor time may swap with some other morning activity time slot.

Media. We have a ‘movie’ twice a month, usually on a Thursday morning. This is one of the many fabulous PBS preschool children’s programs that I have pre-recorded on my DVR.  We watch it after Circle Time and have morning snack while watching the movie.  We have a short discussion afterwards about what we have learned from the program. This encourages thinking and analytical skills and engagement, as opposed to passive absorption of media.

Some of the Choice Play Time stations are:

Pillows & Sorting Toys (hand-eye coordination; shapes and noises; cars & trucks; this is also the place for “tummy time” for babies, or a soft and quiet spot for older children who need a little break);

Tree-House & Doll Family (manual dexterity, speech development; imaginative play);

Reading Library (books—most of the children’s classics are here; maps and globe and exposure to various foreign languages here, too);

Art Easel (independence & confidence is the goal; opportunities to learn about color, story illustration; develop hand-eye coordination; writing readiness and more);

Sand and Water Play Table (develops fine motor skills; pouring and scooping; volumes and measures);

Dramatic Play (Role Play): Kitchen/Shopping/Dress-Up/Tool & Work Bench (engaging in role-playing encourages creative expression and imaginative play, speech development & conversation skills; taking turns);

Architectural Blocks/Charts/Wood Geometry Pattern Blocks & Boards (spatial concepts; geometry; hand-eye coordination; Math readiness. Studies have shown that Architectural & Construction play in preschool years significantly increases the child’s Math scores in later years);

Math-U-See (Mathematics concepts of quantity; one to one correspondence; counting; skip-counting; addition, subtraction);

Table Time with Montessori Method materials such as Animal Classification Puzzles, various cup trays, seashells, etc (manual dexterity; organization skills; spatial relationships; Science and Math readiness);

Writing Road to Reading (learning the alphabet and their sounds; tracing letters; writing and reading readiness)

Circle Time is group time, in which we discuss the theme of the day (usually something seasonal or related to Nature/Science or to Family/Social Studies). We have a short lesson or story, then have discussion. We may either end the Circle Time or begin the Circle Time with Music & Movement.

“World Travel” Time is a story read aloud which takes place in another land or time. The Jet Set Kids have to travel, after all!  Children learn about geography and different cultures, as well as how to quietly listen.  Nap time follows. J

The Jet Set Kids Philosophy

Our philosophy of early childhood education is that the parents are the child’s primary educators. What we do here only supplements what you teach your child by your relationship and interactions with him/her at home and elsewhere.  We are therefore open to any and all suggestions, especially that which strengthens the family’s culture and values. I also encourage parents to be involved as much as possible with their child’s learning from an early age. This sets the tone for later school years as well as strengthens the family bonds.  Ask your child questions about what he is learning at school. Regular family sit-down dinner time is a perfect time for these discussions!  If you want ideas to help with this, feel free to ask me!

I also encourage parents to drop in any time to see what their little ones are up to.  Children love to show off to Mommy and Daddy what they do all day. However, if you must arrive during Nap Time, please take care not to disturb the other children.  Thank you!

Children love to show Teacher and their school friends their home life! For this reason, we encourage families to send photos of the child with his/her parents, siblings,  pets, home, etc. I will make a photo album for each child so that he/she can refer to it at will throughout the day. This helps build self-esteem, confidence and independence in the child --all part of helping our little Jet Set Kids to “take off” and become the best that they can be!

The Jet Set Kids: What is the Montessori Method?

The Jet Sets Kids program is an eclectic one in which I have incorporated many of the principles of the Montessori Method including the controlled environment, the individualized child-led learning, and the“framework” curriculum of the Montessori Method, while employing other proven curriculums such as “Writing Road to Reading” which teaches young children the foundations of writing and reading through all the senses: "see, say, hear, write". I used it to teach my own daughter when I home schooled her many years ago. The superb writing skills she gained from this program helped make her the successful college student she is today.

Controlled and directed construction blocks are also a big part of my program, as studies have proven that children gain the greatest number of life-skills as well as foundations for Math and Science through construction block play in the Preschool years. Drawing on my knowledge as a Registered Architect, I create fun and stimulating lessons for structured block play lessons that teach the Preschool child spatial and early Math foundation skills, as well as helps foster other important skills which studies show help in later academic success -- and even career success. And who doesn't want to give their child the best foundations possible for success in life?

The Montessori Method

by Georgette Naqui

This Early Childhood Program of Education was developed in the early 1900s by Maria Montessori, an educator and the first woman physician in Italy. Based upon her deep Catholic faith and personal beliefs which stress the dignity of each individual child, the system’s philosophy culminated in the lofty belief that education of the child ultimately translates into the development of world peace. At the end of her life, she gave a number of lectures and addresses on the subject, saying in 1936,

‘Preventing conflicts is the work of politics; establishing peace is the work of education.’” (Montessori, Maria (1992). Education and Peace. Oxford: ANC-Clio. pp. 24.)

The Montessori Method consists of a prepared environment which emphasizes practical life and employs its core “sensory materials” which encourage active learning, the key to the Montessori Method.  These materials are designed to facilitate children’s learning through their senses and include a variety of touch and sight materials such as blocks and cups which vary in color, size and texture. The sense of sound is addressed through such items as tonal bells and sound boxes. The sense of smell is evoked in items such as “smelling jars”.

Your Little Author: Age level tips and tricks

·         First year: Spend time talking face-to-face everyday; her best language learning is done while watching you form words!

·         Second year: Play simple word games. “I spy with my eye…” Let him guess the object as you describe the color and shape and use.

·         Third year: Play pretend games with him! He loves to show you his imagination-- and have you follow his lead.

·         Fourth year: Let her tell you a story at bedtime. Ask questions about her characters as she tells you what happens to them.

·        Fifth year: Make a word and picture book together.  Let him write the words as best he can, while you help. He illustrates it. Be sure to bind the book and give it a title with your little author’s name.

Teacher’s Prayer

I want to teach my students how

To live this life on earth,

To face its struggles and its strife

And realize their worth.

Not just the lessons in the books

Or how the rivers flow,

But how to choose the proper path

Wherever they may go.

To understand eternal Truth

And know right from wrong,

And gather all the beauty of

A flower and a song.

For if I help the world to grow

In wisdom and in grace

Then I shall feel that I have won

And I have filled my place.

I humbly ask Your guidance, Lord,

To help me do my part

To build character and confidence

And happiness and heart.
